Secondhand Book Stall
In addition to the usual TAG book stall there will also be a second-hand stall at TAG this year. As ever all proceeds go back to TAG, which is entirely non-profit making.
The stall will be run by asking vendors to set their own prices for the books that they want to sell, and charging 20% per book on sales (10% for anything priced at £20 or more) – so if a book sells for £3, the vendor would receive £2.40.
Pricing would be up to the vendor; offered at £30, a mint copy of Wessex from the Air would almost certainly sell, whereas even one of the rare, opened copies of Alfred’s Kingdom almost certainly would not.
Donations of books will of course be very welcome.
Books can be brought to the conference (the stall will not open on the first day, Monday), or brought/ delivered to Southampton before it. Anyone who is selling or giving books is asked to contact Professor David Hinton (dah5@soton.ac.uk), as a system of anonymous ownership recording will be in place; purchasers will not know whose book they are buying (unless there is a book-plate or signature inside).
Although every care will be taken to ensure that books are not damaged or stolen, they would be on the stall at their owner’s risk, and SoTAG cannot accept responsibility for any damage or thefts. Unsold books can be taken back at the end of the conference, or temporarily stored before return to the owners (subject to a delivery charge if not collected in person). Any books that are not removed or requested will after six months become the property of SoTAG and will be disposed of as the organisers think appropriate.
Buying. There will be no credit or debit card processing facility, so books will have to be paid for in cash, or by cheque if guaranteed by a card.
